Update from Vance Pettus posted on Saturday, November 10, 2007

I'm doing pretty good, I'm still sore in the area where the rib was removed for the kidney surgery. This week I had four biopsies on my thyroid. It will be two weeks before I get the results back. I'm gradually gaining my physical strength back, hoping to play some golf in a couple of weeks. Other than that, no complaints.

Update from Vance on Tuesday, November 11/27/07:

Just to let everyone know, I recently got the best news that I have gotten all year. My thyroid test came back indicating no cancer------Yea! I'll have to go back in 4 months to have it checked again, but right now all seems right.

And yes, I did get out to play golf, not to well, but I did play. I went out again yesterday and had a hole in one so no matter how I played, that made up for it.

Right now doing great and planning on staying that way.

A Question for Carl Butts

Carl,

Do you remember a drill from football practice called "Bull in the Ring"? Also, do you recall who caused your ankle injury?

Wally's Surgery

Posted on November 11, 2007:

I had a conversation with Wally Jones this evening. His back surgery went well. He had slight complication with digestive system on the second day, which required an additional day in the hospital. He was released yesterday (Saturday, 11/10/07), returned home today from San Antonio. No walker is needed. The staples will be removed in two weeks.

Wally said that he has no pain in his leg now. He also said, "I have feeling in my leg and two toes now, which I haven't experienced in twenty years".

Pat Jones

Update from Wally on November 23, 2007:

Progress is being made, am up most of the day now, still some pain meds, though not as often. Leg pain seems to be gone though I am holding till back pain is less then I can tell if leg is in fact OK.

Sleeping better and not as many naps during the day since I am up.

Go back 11/29, for checkup. Now all I can do is walk daily and see how fast back can recover.

Update on David Tyson
Some of my friends have been praying as I was being considered for a kidney transplant at UCLA. I got word on 10/18 that I will NOT be a candidate at this time. I'm to re-apply in January -- after I lose another 20 pounds!

The same day (10/18) I was taken by ambulance to the hospital with chest pains. Thankfully, I got a great heart clearance but had an infected gall bladder and a bag full of stones! So, I had to give up my gall bladder. I told them that if I had to give something up, I wanted something i return -- sherbet!! Since I'm on a blood thinner for my prosthetic aortic heart valve (since 3/97) I had to sit and wait for my coumadin level to go down. My surgeon couldn't do the surgery laparoscopically, so they had to cut me in half! Than had to sit and wait for my coumadin level to come back to therapeutic levels. In all - 13 days in the hospital. I had my dialysis treatments in my hospital room. Glad to escape and appreciative for the prayers from so many friends. YOU may have been praying for the transplant, but God used your prayers to get me through THIS surgery! Thanks!

I'm home now and anxiously putting up with healing. I don't do wait well!

My senior class had its 50th reunion the day after I went in the hospital. It missed being with all of those "old" people! 'Have heard from a number to classmates. Always fun!

Now then, Carol and I are both on walkers for the time being. We couldn't win a three-legged race for the life of us! Traci just moved this weekend to Huntington Beach (about 3 blks from the ocean) so we have an empty nest for the first time in 43 years! She is now working full-time for Mariner's Church as video director. We're so proud of her. Julie & Chris live just 1/2 mile from us, so we get to keep their two boys (4 & 8) quite frequently. Carol is teaching Nicholas piano. He's loving it! Carol had taught Julie when she was his age. Lesli & Brad & Noah live about 50 miles from us in Orange County. Noah just spent a week with us while Les & Brad were in Vermont at a Bible conference (during the time I was in the hospital).

Oh, I almost forget to mention, while I was in the hospital, Carol and Traci (as well as Chris & Julie) were evacuated from our homes by the California Fire Storms. The Sierra Lakes fire burned to 1 block from our home!! At least there's no "fuel" left standing to burn again for a year or so. We went through a similar experience two falls ago.

Alright, I'm caught up on us. What is going on with you and your family. We love to hear from you.

As I approach my 69th birthday in January, I am more and more aware how much old friends mean to me. I sometime wish we were not so far removed from visiting with you.
P. S. I'm recovering, I'm still working (as a real estate investor/Realtor) and look forward to re-connecting with some friends!

The 50 year "happenings" were just great. I am sorry that some had to miss. It was such a fun time. Seeing everyone is always such a pleasure.

All attending had lots of laughs.

WELCOME to the little spot in cyberspace of Forrest City, AR High School's Class of 1957!
It has been 50 years since our high school graduation! A class reunion was held on October 12th and 13th, 2007, and a great time was had by all. As always, the Reunion Committee did a great job of planning the location, entertainment, meals and decorations for the festivities. Also, Dr. King Lee expended much time and effort in photographing class members on three occasions, and thanks to him and Ping for assembling the photos, burning them to a DVD and mailing them to the classmates who attended the reunion.
The Reunion Committee has set the date of October 12th and 13th, 2012 for our next class reunion.
Some members of the Class of '57 wanted this site to be revived, and for news, memories and milestones to be posted.
Please direct any questions regarding the site to Patricia "Pat" Hughes Jones, at pjones1959@comcast.net . Thanks.
